About the East Midlands Asbestos Support Team - EMAST (formerly DAST)
The East Midlands Asbestos Support Team - EMAST (formerly DAST) was set up in March 2002 and since then they have been striving to help and support victims of devastating and debilitating ill-health conditions caused by exposure to asbestos. They also support family members and carers.
Their holistic service includes help with welfare benefits and Government Compensation. They also act as a support group by sending out regular newsletters and invitations for meetings and conferences. This enables people to meet others diagnosed with the same condition, to help them to overcome their feelings of isolation and to support each other. Along with other groups around the Country they act as one voice to campaign for justice for victims of asbestos related diseases.
From 1st October 2024, DAST was renamed East Midlands Asbestos Support Team (EMAST).
The service they provide has has not changed, however the new name will more accurately represent the large area that they cover and make the service accessible to more people as they will know it covers their area. It will also improve access to funding opportunities in other East Midlands counties.
