Use of Terms to Describe UKATA Membership

14 February 2013

Members Memorandum – Use of Terms to Describe UKATA Membership

To whom it may concern

Dear Member

There has in the past been some confusion and ambiguity, along with Member requests as to the correct wording to be used by Registered Members of the Association. In order to clarify any confusion there may be, surrounding the form of words and terminology which is acceptable to the Association, the Development and Marketing Group at the request of the Executive Board has looked into appropriate terminology to be used for the marketing material, websites, and other advertising copy.

Members should of course relate their membership to the relevant Category of Membership held. Effective immediately, Members will be able to use the terms detailed below to describe their membership of the Association. It is now considered that members are approved and their training material and centres are verified by way of annual audit, therefore the following terms can be used by all members.

· UKATA Approved Training Provider/Member
· UKATA Registered Training Provider/Member
· UKATA Verified Training/ Training Provider/Member
· UKATA Certified Training/ Training Provider/Member

The use of these terms is of course subject to on-going conformance with our Articles, Rules of Membership and any other relevant bye laws, i.e. Membership fees have been paid in full and on time, audits are current (the membership process is completed within 6 months “due process”) and that members comply with the terms of the certificate generator.
It should be noted that the use of the term UKATA Accredited is NOT permitted under any circumstances, as a full UKATA accreditation scheme is not possible at this time.

The Association is aware that the use of the terms “accredited” or reference to “accreditation” is already prevalent, especially on web copy. We would respectfully ask all Members to review their “copy” or other marketing/advertising materials to ensure that any use of “accredited” or reference to “UAKTA accreditation” is removed forthwith.

The Association will continue to monitor the use of authorised and non-authorised descriptors of membership by our Members. Action will be taken against any Member found to be mis-using the agreed terms, or mis-representing the status of their UKATA membership.

Yours Sincerely

UK Asbestos Training Association
