This February, the Institute of Demolition Engineers met at the Royal Armouries, Leeds where UKATA member Wayne Bagnall MBE MSc CMIOSH Hon-FIDE MCMI of Wayne Bagnall Consulting was awarded the highest accolade in The Institute of Demolition Engineers (IDE) as an Honorary Fellow[1] (Hon-FIDE). Bestowed in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to the work of the institute, where he served on the National Council of Management for over six years and organised several successful events.
The Institute of Demolition Engineers (IDE) exists to promote and foster the science of demolition engineering. The main objectives include the promotion of the use of more efficient industry techniques, encouragement of safer methods of working, and provision of a qualifying body for the industry.
Wayne’s distinguished career spans over 40 years, being one of the first four persons in the UK to achieve an MSc in Construction (H&S) Management. Furthermore, authoring demolition guidance for the CITB, HSE, CIP, and NFDC including co-writing the Demolition British Standard BS 6187.
In 1997, he was awarded an MBE for services to the building industry in the Queen’s birthday honours.
From running a medium-sized asbestos and demolition company, then latterly as a chartered consulting engineer, he continues to support the asbestos and demolition industry in various roles from specialist advice, training, and as an expert witness. Regularly representing UKATA in speaking roles across the UK at health and safety events.
On hearing the news, UKATA Chief Operating Officer, Craig Evans said:

As a long-standing member and supporter of UKATA, Wayne has spoken on behalf of the association at several public events. I take this opportunity to express my personal gratitude for the effort and time contributed".
