UKATA is pleased to announce that it has been invited to participate in the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)Asbestos Research Prioritisation Summit, which will take place on 4-5 March 2025 at Alan Hall in Manchester.

This important event, organised by the HSE, will bring together key stakeholders to prioritise critical research areas aimed at ensuring the best decisions are made regarding the management and removal of asbestos from buildings across Great Britain.

Presentations will be delivered from leading experts including professionals from the HSE and NHS. Opportunities for networking, workshops and discussion sessions will form part of the summit.

Representing UKATA at the event will be Director Chris Bishop, who will contribute his expertise in asbestos training and safety to the discussions. Chris has been working within the asbestos industry for over 20 years and has worked with UKATA since its inception in 2007.

With asbestos still present in many buildings, the summit will explore the research needed to determine when removal is the most appropriate course of action and how it can be undertaken as safely and efficiently as possible.

The planned removal of all asbestos-containing materials from buildings in the UK presents significant challenges, particularly in ensuring there is adequate capacity to carry out the process safely. The summit will aim to identify key research priorities that will inform decision-making and contribute to HSE’s “Areas of Research Interest” process. The event will also explore how various organisations can contribute to supporting and facilitating these essential research efforts.

Speaking of their involvement in the event, UKATA’s Events & Marketing Manager, Victoria Castelluccio said “UKATA is privileged to be part of this important summit, which will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of asbestos management in the UK. Being involved in these crucial discussions underscores UKATA’s dedication to driving positive change in the industry.”
