UKATA recently hosted an insightful free webinar on Duty to Manage Asbestos – Who Holds the Responsibility? Providing clarity on legal responsibilities.
The webinar, held on 11 March 2025, featured Graham O’Mahony, UKATA Chair, who guided attendees through key aspects of asbestos management, including identifying responsible parties, understanding legal obligations, and implementing best practices for compliance.
With over 30 years of experience in the asbestos and construction industries, Graham O’Mahony has built a career spanning asbestos surveying, management, and training. Beginning as a Plumbing and Heating Engineer before transitioning into Building Surveying, Graham has worked across both public and private sectors, overseeing asbestos compliance and delivering specialist training. A recognised industry leader, he has been instrumental in developing the Duty to Manage framework at UKATA and frequently speaks at conferences and events to educate the wider industry on asbestos management and compliance best practices.

With many duty holders, building owners, and facilities managers uncertain about who holds responsibility for managing asbestos, this session provided essential knowledge to help ensure compliance and protect those at risk of exposure. The session concluded with a live Q&A, allowing attendees to have their specific concerns addressed directly by Graham.
On organising the event, UKATA’s Events & Marketing Coordinator, Kelly-Anne Smith said: "At UKATA, we are committed to delivering expert-led training and guidance to support industry professionals. The positive response to this webinar shows just how important it is to provide clear, accessible information on asbestos management and compliance."
Over 100 learners attended the live session, with positive feedback received, including: Duncan McNicol from CBES who expressed it was a '"Really good session" and Hasim Mookkummal from Mechanical Contracting who agreed the webinar was "very informative".
