Held at the Markham Vale Environment Centre, UKATA is set to host their own Macmillan Coffee Morning, Tuesday 13 September, from 10:00am – 11:30am.
Local businesses and UKATA members are invited to come along to help raise much needed funds and indulge in homemade cakes and biscuits. In previous years the association has raised in excess of £160 for the charity during similar events.
Macmillan is almost entirely funded by donations and simply cannot support the growing number of people with cancer who need them. There are around 375,000 new cancer cases in the UK every year, that’s around 1,000 every day, from 2016 – 2018.
From 2017 – 2019, there were 167,142 deaths in the UK from cancer. Mesothelioma, a form of cancer developed from exposure to asbestos, is responsible for around 2,500 deaths every year.
3 million people were living with cancer in 2020, in the UK. Macmillan anticipate this figure to rise to 4 million by 2030 and 5.3 million in 2040.
