UKATA Director Chris Ivey was invited to deliver a presentation to the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) at their Spring Technical Meeting on 4th February 2025 at Stadium MK, Milton Keynes.

The Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) is a professional body dedicated to advancing fire safety at local, national, and international levels. As a non-profit organisation, their focus is solely on the improvement of fire safety rather than financial gain. Every decision they make and every initiative they undertake is driven by their core mission:

“To raise the awareness of fire safety at a local, national and international level, promoting fire prevention, fire protection, and reducing the risk from fire as far as reasonably practicable.”

UKATA Board Member and The Health & Safety People’s (THSP) Consultant Director for Health and Safety, Chris Ivey, is responsible for ensuring their team of Health and Safety consultants deliver exceptional levels of service to all their customers.

Chris is also a Chartered Member of IOSH and Guardian for Building Mental Health. With over 26 years at THSP, Chris has extensive experience in all areas of construction and demolition and is now passing on his passion for addressing the significant health issues facing the industry, most notably mental health and asbestos, to the next generation of professionals coming into the industry.

Chris recently completed his Construction Fire Safety diploma, where the storytelling in his dissertation - looking at the history of regulatory responses to tall building fires across the world, helped him achieve a perfect score.

With his extensive knowledge and experience in construction, Chris focuses on making safe working easier than not, in support of positive health and safety culture.

The sold-out event gave over 100 attendees the opportunity to hear from distinguished guest speakers who shared their expertise on the latest trends and advancements in fire safety.

Speakers included Ross Evans, Product Specialist and Support/ Training Manager of Fike Safety Technology and Marcus Phillips, Technical and Strategic Officer for Alcema Fire Ltd, Dr Andrew Taylor, ASFP Technical Officer, along with UKATA Director Chris Ivey.

Speaking of the event UKATA Director, Chris Ivey said “Thank you to The Institute of Fire Safety Managers for inviting me to speak on behalf of UKATA, about the ever-present danger presented to fire risk assessors and associated trades due to the legacy of asbestos use in UK.”

During the event, Chris had the opportunity to take numerous questions from attendees who shared a passion for ensuring safer working environments.

Following the event UKATA has received excellent feedback on Chris’ presentation with other Safety Groups inviting him to deliver his session to their audiences. If you are looking for a speaker at your upcoming event, please contact Victoria Castelluccio or call 01246 824437
