Leading trade association UKATA, attended the “Asbestos in Colombia 2024: Challenges After the Ban” Conference, 29 – 30 August in Bogotá, Colombia.
The two-day conference brought together almost 200 leading experts, policymakers, and industry stakeholders from around the world including representatives from Mesothelioma UK and The European Asbestos Forum. The event focused on addressing the ongoing dangers of asbestos exposure and the critical need for enhanced global awareness and action.
With a focus on sharing the latest research, best practices, and innovative solutions, the conference featured a series of insightful presentations, panel discussions, and workshops. These sessions provided attendees with valuable knowledge and tools to combat the ongoing dangers associated with asbestos, a substance that continues to pose a significant threat to public health and safety worldwide.
During the conference organised by the National Cancer Institute and the Colombia Asbestos Free Foundation (FundClas), UKATA Director Adam Harding delivered a session on “Recognising Asbestos in the Workplace & Homes”. In his presentation, Adam highlighted where asbestos is commonly found along with the risks associated with exposure to asbestos, friability and the importance of the correct level of training and instruction.
Reflecting on the conference, UKATA Director Adam Harding said “Wow, what an opportunity - to see how hard Colombia and much of Latin America are working to protect their people from asbestos exposure. The passion, enthusiasm and dedication shown by Fundclass, Instituto Nacional de Cancerolgica and so many more is wonderful”.
