Award winning trade association UKATA, is honoured to announce its participation in the upcoming “Asbestos in Colombia 2024: Challenges After the Ban” Conference, taking place 29 – 30 August in Bogotá, Colombia.

The conference, hosted by FUNDCLAS will provide the opportunity to learn from other countries on how to implement awareness campaigns among the general population, discuss the latest advances in asbestos related diseases research internationally, explore the latest advances to eliminate asbestos, and seek to strengthen the commitment of authorities and society with the implementation of the Ana Cecilia Niño Law.

“The Ana Cecilia Niño Law”, in honour of the social communicator and victim of asbestos exposure who led the ban on the mineral in Colombia, aims to preserve life, health and the environment of the workers and of all the inhabitants of Colombia, by prohibiting the exploitation, production, marketing, distribution, or export of any variety of asbestos throughout the national territory.

Asbestos was banned in the UK in 1999, the legislation that banned all forms of asbestos in the UK is a model of how comprehensive and enforceable laws are crucial to effectively manage and mitigate asbestos risks. Dealing with the legacy of asbestos, in older buildings requires ongoing awareness and training.
