Members Memorandum – Tutor Competency Consultation
To whom it may concern
Dear Member
I write to inform you all that since taking over as Membership Chairman in July of this Year I have looked at a number of ways of developing our membership and addressing some of the main issues that were raised during our last AGM.
The issue of Tutor Competency was raised by a significant number of delegates at our AGM. I feel that this is possibly the most important single issue we have just now and I would like your help in addressing it. At present Tutor Competency is largely addressed during the course verification and audit process where the Tutor presenting the course is evaluated. There are some quite clear problems with this e.g. what happens if there are multiple tutors in an organisation – it may take a few years to see each of the tutors; what happens if multiple courses are being presented – it may take a few years to see all of the courses, what happens if the competent person leaves the organisation?
I have discussed the issue with the Executive Committee but, before formulating any firm proposals, I feel it would be of great benefit to hear from our Members. If you have any suggestions at all as to how we can assure the competency of our Tutors – and how to give assistance if it is needed – please get in touch with me. Whatever your thoughts, I would be very grateful to receive them. Once we have your views we can collate all of the ideas and then then come back to the membership with some suggestions.
Please write or email the office your views, ideas or suggestions clearly marking the corresponedence or subject line ‘Tutor Competency Consultation’.
Thanks in advance
Yours Sincerely
Dave Nichol
Membership Chairman
