Macmillan Coffee Morning 2018
28th September 2018 The UK Asbestos Training Association held its annual coffee morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. UKATA got involved by baking some sweet treats to raise money for the charity which provide medical, emotional, practical and financial support, as well as campaigning for better cancer care.
The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, Macmillan Cancer Support did it again the next year – only this time nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £200 million for Macmillan.
More than 30 people from local companies turned up to Markham Vale Environment Centre, to enjoy an array of home-made cakes produced by members of the team. As well as coffee and cake, visitors had the chance to take a tour of the new office UKATA moved into earlier this year.
UKATA Apprentice Saffron, made a special delivery of delicious homemade buns, and our very own Delia Smith (Gill Lewis) donated her mouth watering cheese scones to the cause.
Event Organiser, Victoria Castelluccio said, ‘The coffee morning was a great success, our last Coffee Morning saw us raise £120, this year we have raised £160 which will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support to assist with cancer care, we are very proud to have made a difference!’
