The first ceremony was held in 2022 alongside the well-established British Demolition Awards at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.
UKATA Chief Operating Officer, Craig Evans, was one of judges for the awards alongside Wayne Bagnall (Wayne Bagnall Consulting Ltd) and Yvonne Waterman (European Asbestos Forum Foundation).
The winners from the evening were:
- Asbestos Industry Trainee/Apprentice of the Year – Sydney Budenbender, DSK Environmental Ltd
- Asbestos Industry Operative of the Year – Ross Cressingham, Clifford Devlin
- Asbestos Removal Project of the Year – Shield Services Group

In addition to the winners, Craig Evans, Collete Willoughby (National Organisation of Asbestos Consultants), Andrew Paten (UKNAR) and Yvonne Waterman had the honour of unveiling the heartfelt tribute painting to Mavis and Ray Nye for its first public appearance.
The painting symbolises their outstanding contributions to the asbestos industry and remarkable dedication to raising asbestos and mesothelioma awareness.
