Industry Event - UKATA Asbestos on Trial - National Justice Museum - 28 October 2024

Step inside a courtroom in Nottingham on 28th October 2024 for a live and interactive experience like no other. You as the jury decide!

In collaboration with PCR Global Limited, Sewell Law and Ropewalk Chambers, we are delighted to invite you to this full day interactive and informative event featuring industry updates and a live mock trial.

Kicking off the day, former HSE inspector Emma Wilkinson of PCR Global Limited will present a discussion on what to do “when an inspector calls”.

This will be followed by an update on recent asbestos cases and a discussion on where we are now with mesothelioma by experienced defence solicitors, Gordon Sewell and Jennifer Sewell of Sewell Law.

After a short break, Jack McCracken, barrister at Ropewalk Chambers, Nottingham, and specialist in the industrial disease field will assume the role of Judge and preside over the Victorian Court room as you are sworn in as a member of the jury. The case will give you a glimpse into what happens when a director is prosecuted for health and safety failings.

Witnesses will be called to give live evidence to the Court and be challenged under cross examination.

During the break for lunch, you will have the opportunity to join a tour of the beautiful, historic National Justice Museum which features a Georgian gaol, and ancient cells.

Do not get locked in though as, after lunch, you have a big decision to make. Is the Defendant guilty or not guilty?

Once the Defendant’s fate is sealed, Judge McCraken will guide you through how sentencing of a Director or senior manager works if a guilty verdict is reached. He may even hand over the sentencing to you. What will the penalty be?
