Fundraising Walk Raises Awareness for Mesothelioma

UKATA is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of the recent charity event it proudly sponsored.

Along with others Liam Bradley walked from Ipswich Town Football Club to Nottingham Forest Football Club to raise vital funds for Mesothelioma UK.

Mesothelioma UK is a national asbestos-related cancer charity. They exist to support people with mesothelioma to live better and live longer and to prevent mesothelioma happening to future generations.

Liam Bradley was just 30 years old when he was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma in February 2017. Despite his diagnosis, Liam is currently able to continue to work and lead a full and hectic life as a dad of three young girls.

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that develops in the lining that covers the outer surface of some of the body's organs. It's usually linked to asbestos exposure.

Liam and his colleague Mike Goodchild embarked on their challenge on 25 November, setting off on a 140 mile walk from Ipswich Town to the Nottingham Forest ground in time for the Premier League game between both teams on 30 November 2024. The team were joined by friends and colleagues at various points along the route.

The fundraising goal was £10,000 and the team exceeded their target!

Speaking of the challenge Liam Bradley said “I’m feeling bruised and battered, but every ache and pain was definitely worth it! My aim was to get people talking about asbestos and raising awareness making them think about where it is when they go to work, enter a building or even doing some simple DIY, and the more we talk about it and highlight the dangers the government may then do something about it to protect us all.

I’d like to personally thank Mike and Rob for being on this journey with me, and the support teams, as without them it wouldn’t have been possible. A big thanks to Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest for their support and to all those companies who sponsored the t-shirt, have donated, supported on route, shared our posts or have given us a wave, we are truly grateful to you all.

The money we raised which is just shy of £11k but still on the rise is just amazing and will help support the great work Mesothelioma UK do to help people like me“.

On sponsoring the event, UKATA’s Events & Marketing Manager Victoria Castelluccio said “We are honoured to have sponsored Liam and the Bauder Ltd team and we are so pleased to have been able to follow their journey and see the support they received along the way, their dedication to raising awareness of asbestos related disease is vital to support the charity and protect individuals from exposure”.

The target for this challenge was exceeded, but your support is greatly appreciated, if you are able to contribute please head over to Liam’s fundraiser.
