Craig reaches dizzy heights for DAST

Craig Evans, ICT & Financial Controller at UK Asbestos Training Association Ltd (UKATA), has been brought back down to earth while raising money for local charity The Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team (DAST). On Saturday 6 October, at the Nottingham Airfield, Craig leapt from the dizzy height of 13,000 feet, raising over £1,000 for DAST so far, with his death defying skydive.

Craig, 24, from Chesterfield, is no stranger to daredevil stunts but chose to skydive in support of DAST to raise awareness of the continuing asbestos hazard, exposure risks and related diseases, while also raising funds for the charity closely linked to his employer, UKATA.

“With my role at UKATA it was fitting to skydive in aid of DAST,” said Craig. “The weather was kind, I had a blast and loved every second. More importantly, I managed to raise over £1,000 to support the charity and the great work they do.”

You can still support Craig and his fundraising efforts for DAST at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/CraigEvansTandemSkydive. Any donations are welcome and really appreciated, and will receive Gift Aid where the donor is eligible.

DAST is a charity which helps and supports anyone diagnosed with an asbestos related disease. The majority of people they help and support have been diagnosed with Mesothelioma (cancer caused by exposure to asbestos). Their unique support service includes help with benefits uptake, Government Compensation Schemes and advice about making a civil compensation claim. They also act as a support group by arranging meetings, conferences, and distributing regular members’ newsletters. They also have resources to help those diagnosed with respiratory diseases to manage their condition and live the fullest lives possible.

“My colleagues at UKATA, friends and family have been a massive support and were there on the day to cheer me on,” continued Craig. “The donations keep coming in and I’m really grateful to everyone who has sponsored me. Every penny raised for DAST is well spent, so I’d still like to raise more!”
