Award-winning independent asbestos management consultancy, Acorn Analytical Services, has been rated ‘strong’ by industry analyst, Plimsoll.
Having compared and analysed key data, including market value and commercial results with its competitors across the UK, UKATA member Acorn, which has a base on Northampton’s Moulton Park, has emerged with the highest rating possible, cementing the company’s reputation as one of the leading authorities in asbestos management.
This latest success comes just weeks after the company won the prestigious High Growth and Overall Winner awards at the Northamptonshire SME Awards in June.
Director, Ian Stone said: “We are delighted to learn that we have been rated as ‘strong’ – a result which has only been made possible thanks to the commitment and dedication of our team.
“This important study highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the company, estimates the market value, and compares the commercial results achieved by its competitors.
“The data shows that 86 companies in the UK are making a loss and 95 have been rated as strong, which means that the market we operate in could look very different by the end of the year.”
Acorn’s rating comes at a time when asbestos – a naturally occurring mineral which was used extensively in the construction industry during the late 20th Century - is dominating the headlines due to its links with mesothelioma, a cancer which largely affects the lungs and stomach.
As asbestos fibres start to decay, particularly in older homes and many public buildings including hospitals, factories and even schools, the risk of inhaling them increases significantly.
According to the latest statistics, more than 300,000 non-domestic buildings still contain asbestos, more than 20 years after its use in new buildings was banned in the UK.
Ian believes more stringent rules are likely to be introduced to ensure that asbestos is managed as safely as possible.
He explained: “My prediction is that the authorities will continue to clamp down and target businesses more than ever. This brings added pressure for duty holders to ensure compliance is undertaken proactively and fully managed. Employing the right consultant to support you has never been more important.”
